Me guitarist

I'm a composer with acoustic guitar as my main instrument. I studied these disciplines in the conservatories of Ghent, Belgium and Rotterdam, The Netherlands. My music mostly inspired on jazz and other popular idioms, but I write primarily for classical instrumentations. I'd describe it as primarily filmic.

Networking with the music pages of MySpace has resulted in several performances and commissions from abroad.

Prizes

  • Second prize for a classical guitar performance in the regional finals of the Dutch Prinses Christina Concours (1990), a competition for young music students still in High School.
  • Third prize winner in the Italian composition contest of Accademia della Chitarra di Brescia (2008).

Performances/commissions

  • Providence Mandolin Orchestra - The PMO requested a piece for their group, which I finished during the summer of 2009. It is called The City Awakens and was premiered om December 5th 2009. (Watch The City Awakens in an excellent performance on YouTube.)
  • Triobio - Talented Turkish guitar trio which commissioned a concert piece (“Zest”).
  • String trio Sciolto - Dutch string trio, who also played the trios in the music samples above. They had commissioned a concert piece ("Kwart voor drie").
  • Jan Bartlema - Dutch guitarist, my former teacher. I wrote a piece for him called Luminescence
  • Mark and Beverly Davis - Excellent American guitar duo who performed “The Heart That Speaks” in a version for guitar duo.
  • Student orchestra of the ROC Friese Poort - A Dutch school where the music students performed a piece of mine which they had commissioned (“Screensaver”).
  • A Dutch museum of Nature (Fries natuur museum) commissioned music for a slideshow presentation, which is on permanent display (“Friesland onder water”).
  • Las Rosas guitar trio - this Belgian ensemble commissioned a piece for guitar trio, which became “De Vooravond”. I rewrote it somewhere in 2002/2003 to its present form
  • Steenbrugge Expo - Composition for the openingconcert of an art exhibit in Steenbrugge, Belgium. The “Steenbrugge Concerto” was performed by Wim Maeseele and me on guitar.
  • Academie Kortrijk - Amateur music students at the academy of Kortrijk, Belgium performed the music I wrote for a theater adaption of King Arthur. The instrumentation is flute, harp, guitar and cello.
